The R-value
is the measure of how well a material resists the flow of heat. The “R”
stands for “resistance”.R-value is
determined by a material’s natural ability to resist the flow of heat
(called thermal conductivity) and the thickness of the material. Generally,
the higher the R-value the thicker the Batt will appear and the better the
insulation will perform.
R3.5 Ceiling Batts are a proven comfort
solution for homes in most regions of Australia. If you have air
conditioning or central heating then R3.5 insulation will also typically be
the most cost effective product – paying for itself in reduced energy costs.
In extreme climate higher R-values may be warranted and R4.0 and R5.0 batts
are manufactured for this reason.
The recommended R-values for walls under
AS2627.1 ranges between R1.5 and R2.0.
The same ratings are available in both
fibreglass and polyester batts. Autumn and Winter are the best times to get
up in the roof and install some batts before the weather gets too hot.
