DID YOU KNOW?

How to position a Sundial
A horizontal sundial consists of the dial plate, marked off in hours, and the gnomon (the angled pointer which sits on the noon line and projects out from the plate).
Now, here is how you position it.

1. Make sure that you place it on a flat, solid surface and point the stars on the dial towards the north.
2. At 12 noon, align the shadow from the gnomon to fall on the Roman numerals XII (that's 12 o'clock in Latin numbers)
3. Check the time on your watch with that on the dial at different hours of the day to confirm your settings before you finally fasten the sundial to its base.
