DID YOU KNOW?

 Nail Tips
Some handy hints to ensure your job stays together.
Choose the right length
The nail should by 2-3 times longer than the timber being held. Always nail the lighter timber to the heavier piece.
Annular or Helical Thread
These nails engage the wood fibres and are used for greater resistance to movement. To remove these nails it is often necessary to tear the engaged fibres out of the wood.
Skewing
Where possible, skew nail to maximise joint strength. Avoid nailing into the end grain. When nailing into softwoods use longer nails.
Pre Drill
To avoid bending the nails when fixing to hardwood posts and supports (eg Red Gum) pre drilling is necessary
